ToggleWHAT HAPPENED?
England captain Kane enjoyed a productive debut campaign at the Allianz Arena on a personal level. He missed out on major silverware once again, with Bayern enduring a rare trophyless campaign, but did find the target on 44 occasions across all competitions – with 36 of those efforts registered in the Bundesliga.

THE BIGGER PICTURE
Kane is back for more in 2024-25, having endured European Championship final heartache with the Three Lions, and will be expected to lead from the front as manager Vincent Kompany ushers in a new era. The former Tottenham striker remains a talismanic presence at 31 years of age, but has been warned that things are not about to get any easier in a bid to bring his barren run on the silverware front to a close.

WHAT MATTHAUS SAID
Bayern legend Matthaus has told of Kane: “It certainly wasn't his fault that Bayern didn't win a title. But despite his 36 goals, the last 12 months have not gone as he had imagined, especially with the European Championship, which was a disappointment for him personally. Back problems, very few ball contacts, being substituted as captain, the second final defeat in a row – things like that stick in your mind.”

DID YOU KNOW?
Matthaus added that Kane will be “looking forward to Bayern because he will be much more involved there than in the English national team's game”. He countered that slightly by saying: “The newness, the freshness of last year is gone for now, it will be more difficult for him. I don't think he will score 36 goals again.”
