    THE BIGGER PICTURE

Old Firm rivals Celtic are closing in on another Scottish Premiership title, with there clearly work for Rangers to do heading forward. Liverpool legend Gerrard was the last man to deliver a domestic crown to the blue half of Glasgow in 2020-21. He is out of work after leaving Saudi Pro League side Al-Ettifaq.

Mourinho, meanwhile, has admitted that he may be tempted to link up with a Scottish giant at some stage – with the outspoken former Chelsea, Manchester United and Real Madrid boss currently in Turkey with Fenerbahce.

    WHAT ALLY MCCOIST SAID

Gers legend McCoist has told when asked if Gerrard or the ‘Special One’ would be good fits at Ibrox: “Yes, I think both could fit the bill in terms of stature and what they’d bring to the club and Scottish football in general. But they’d both need proper financial backing. The current squad just isn’t strong enough.”
